SUP WISE - theoretical stand-up paddleboarding courses

DURING COURSES

You will receive all the most important information about the basics of rowing technique, equipment, and safety.

The knowledge gained in the courses will allow you to safely and correctly enjoy paddleboarding yourself, select the right equipment for your clients, and assess potential risk factors and avoid them.

You will learn how to assess environmental factors, potential risks while swimming, how to ensure your own and others' safety. You will understand the equipment used in paddleboarding, its differences, and how to choose it for yourself or others.

During the course, you will also learn the basics of correct paddling technique: the five phases of paddling, correct and safe entry and exit from the water, falls, effective turns, and SUP etiquette in the water.

  • for paddleboarding enthusiasts who want to practice this sport safely and correctly;

  • paddleboard equipment sellers;

  • for paddleboard rental staff.

TOPICS

In order to enjoy paddle boarding safely and properly, it is important to have an understanding of these three main areas: environment and safety, equipment and clothing, and paddling skills. During the course, we will delve into these three topics and the most important aspects , which, once understood, will allow you not only to safely enjoy paddle boarding yourself and improve in it, but also to properly select equipment for your clients, and to safely and confidently organize paddle boarding rentals or tours.

  1. Environment and safety ( characteristics of inland water bodies; assessment of weather conditions, forecasting their changes and adaptation; understanding and assessment of different water conditions; anticipating personal risks arising from rowing ; selecting safe areas for rowing activities;   self-rescue methods and their use; SUP etiquette).

  2. Equipment and clothing (how to properly select and match equipment to others; appropriate clothing depending on the time of year and accessories).

  3. Rowing technique skills (safe ways to enter and exit the water; stand-up rowing; kneeling rowing; determining the correct rowing position – 3 Ps; knowing, naming and distinguishing the 5 phases of the stroke; choosing the right method of changing direction; two most popular ways of turning the board and choosing the right one; stopping the board; falling safely from the board; getting back on the board after falling; pivot turn and its use)

FORMAT

These theoretical courses are organized remotely, via video conference. Registered participants will receive information with login details by e-mail. Estimated duration: 6 hours, if participants have additional questions, the conference time may be extended. After the course, theoretical material (in PDF format) will be sent to participants.
Course participants will be able to take advantage of discounts on practical lessons, where they will be able to consolidate their theoretical knowledge by sailing with certified ASI instructors.
